This carved shogi pieces set is made from rare Japanese Ono-ore wood.

The Ono-ore wood is one of the high value materials. Ono-ore literally means "axe breaker", which is named after the way how the wood is hard and dense.

Although relatively inexpensive, the weight and hardness are very similar to that of Japanese boxwood.

The both sides of pieces are black, with a piece box.

This product is made by Nakajima Seikichi Shoten in Tendo, the home of shogi pieces.
